José Soto is a dancer and teacher of traditional Mexican folkloric dance. He learned the form from his mother, a seamstress and costume maker, during his childhood in Sinaloa, Mexico, where he regularly participated in annual school festivals and community events. Since 2010, Soto has directed Tradiciones Dance Company in Phoenix.
The Ways of Resilience is a 4-part series of live chats with 4 amazing artists / culture bearers who’ll share stories from their lives and practice on resilience and where they find it and how it shows up in their work. All artists and heritage practitioners are recipients of Southwest Folklife Alliance’s Master-Apprentice Artist Award recognizing traditional artists and culture bearers in Arizona.
This is our final event of this series. Visit SouthwestFolklife.org for more information about the first three.
