Hear me:I hurt.I tried.I cannot do this for you.It is too heavy. It is too hard.It costs too much.I cannot make it work for you.I am tired.I am old.I ache.I too am afraid.

Caretakers scaffold the entire medical system and yet there are no services for them.

44:36
I joined an Alzheimer's support group when caring for my mother. The outcome of several of the caregivers was as tragic as that of the person they cared for. Two of the caregivers died right after their loved one did.

Every story shared is a chance to make someone feel less alone. Thank you all for your stories.

01:01:17
accessibility in healthcare is a huge issue

01:01:59
Would love to see this bibliography!!

01:02:25
Real talk. People with mobility issues get distilled to: "Well, how do you feel?" Then, if they have difficulty articulating themselves, it's anyone's guess. A battery of tests, but if that doesn't cover it...oops, I guess?

01:02:59
Wonderful discussion. And poetry. Thanks.

01:03:02
I am so grateful to have been able to hear all of your stories. Thank you!

01:03:04
This is so profoundly humanizing. A deep thank you to everyone.

My wife suffers from many medical issues that are not apparent by looking at her alone. I can completely relate to the frustration and pain that comes from being a caregiver that has their hands-tied. I myself have a few medical issues (not to the extent presented by any means) and knowing that discussions/art like this exists to possibly help those in the medical field relate more, is beyond important. Thank you all. Amazing works!

01:06:02
Ah yes. Mr. Billings. Behold, chat. Someone stronger than I am.

Dorothy, as someone who is both in a caregiver situation and dealing with my own health issues, I relate on such an intrinsic level.

Miroslav Holub is a doctor turned poet. he was immunologist in the 50-60s and he turned to poetry for relief. Not all of his poetry is medical but you can see the humanism in every work. there aren't a lot of people who cross that bridge between science and literature be he's one if anyone is interested

01:14:49
