UAMA Member Monday: Astronomy and the Visual Arts
A UAMA Member Monday virtual talk with Dr. Richard Poss, Associate Professor in Astronomy at the University of Arizona

Astronomical art is a good indicator of the relationship between the poetic and the scientific worlds. This talk will examine a series of works ranging from medieval manuscript illustrations to contemporary space art, all of which deal with aspects of astronomy. We will see how art can critique astronomical theories and comment on the condition of science.

Richard Poss is an associate professor in the Astronomy department at the University of Arizona. He teaches history of astronomy, astronomy and the arts, and is a frequent instructor in the UA’s Humanities Seminars program.
